Kolkata: A migrant worker from Baduria in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas was murdered while going to work in Maharashtra. The deceased has been identified as Abu Bakkar Mondal (33). It is alleged that he was brutally hacked to pieces, put in a sack and thrown into the water.
After receiving the complaint, the police of Bhisi Police Station in Maharashtra launched an investigation and recovered his body from a pond. The body was brought home last night.
Abu Bakkar Mondal lived in the Narayanpur village of Baduria. He went to Maharashtra a few years ago, and there, he worked as a mason. He lived with his wife in the Waigaon area of the Bhisi police station.
It is learnt that Mondal was not found since the evening of last Sunday (July 20). His mobile phone was switched off. When he was not found despite frantically searching on that day and the next, his family filed a complaint with the Bhisi police station. After that, the police started an investigation.
Last Tuesday, police found his body stuffed in a sack in a pond not far from where he was staying. The body had been cut into pieces and stuffed into the sack in the pond. The police showed the body to his family, who identified him. After the autopsy, his body was brought from Maharashtra to his home in Baduria last night. His parents and relatives broke down in tears as the body returned home.
His family has demanded exemplary punishment for the culprits. Shahanur Ghazi, the deceased's son-in-law, said, "We want the culprits to be hanged." The deceased's family has also appealed to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to investigate why the migrant worker was killed.
Abu Bakkar's body was buried last night. It is learnt that the Bhisi police station has started an investigation into the murder. The family of the deceased is unable to understand the reason behind the murder.
