New Delhi: India has slammed Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir's nuclear threat and also pointed out that he made those comments while delivering a speech in the US. The Centre has attacked the remarks and has said that India will never bow down to nuclear threats.
The government has blasted Pakistan over its terrorism problem, the control of the military over the country's government, and the logic of allowing such a country to possess nuclear weapons.
The Ministry of External Affairs, in a statement, said, "Nuclear sabre-rattling is Pakistan’s stock-in-trade. The international community can draw its own conclusions on the irresponsibility inherent in such remarks, which also reinforce the well-held doubts about the integrity of nuclear command and control in a state where the military is hand-in-glove with terrorist groups."
India also highlighted the fact that Munir made those comments while speaking on US soil and said, "It is also regrettable that these remarks should have been made from the soil of a friendly third country."
The statement also said that India will never bow down to nuclear blackmail. It said, "India has already made it clear that it will not give in to nuclear blackmail. We will continue to take all steps necessary to safeguard our national security."
Pakistan's Army Chief Asim Munir, while speaking at an event in Tampa, Florida, threatened to take down "half the world" if his country faced an existential threat in a future war with India. He said, "We are a nuclear nation. If we think we are going down, we'll take half the world down with us."
Moreover, he touched upon the issue of the Indus Water Treaty, which India has put in abeyance after the Pahalgam terror attack. He said, "We will wait for India to build a dam, and when it does so, we will destroy it with 10 missiles." He added that the Indus River was not India's family property.
