Nobody would have attacked India again had there been Operation Sindoor after 26/11: Fadnavis

Hitting out at Pakistan, the chief minister noted that Islamabad knows that it cannot attack India directly. It is because of this that Pakistan planned the recent Pahalgam terror attack and the recent terror attack in Delhi.

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said that had India taken an Operation Sindoor-like step post 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, terrorists wouldn't have dared to attack India again. He was speaking at an event at the Gateway of India in Mumbai to mark the 17th anniversary of the terror attack.

Speaking at the event, the chief minister said it was not the attack on Taj but on the sovereignty of the country. “Had we understood this and shown the courage to conduct an 'Operation Sindoor' then, nobody would have dared to attack us again,” news agency PTI quoted him as saying.

"We have gathered here to honour the martyrs and the brave-hearts, and remember that the threat of terror persists and we need to be alert. We need to be the eyes and ears of our country and speak in one language. We are safe if we are united," the chief minister said further.

Hitting out at Pakistan, the chief minister noted that Islamabad knows that it cannot attack India directly. It is because of this that Pakistan planned the recent Pahalgam terror attack and the recent terror attack in Delhi. Fadnavis was referring to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam in which 26 people lost their lives. Recently, on November 10, at least 13 people lost their lives after a man driving the car exploded the vehicle near the Red Fort in Delhi.

‘PM Modi gave freedom to the armed forces to take action’

Following the Pahalgam attack, Indian armed forces conducted Operation Sindoor against nine terror camps in Pakistan destroying all of them. “PM (Narendra) Modi has said terror and talks can not go together, and gave freedom to the armed forces to take action. Through Operation Sindoor, the world saw India's might. India is a strong country, and the war (against terror) is not over,” the Maharashtra Chief Minister said.

Notably, at least 166 people lost their lives in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, while many were injured. All terrorists except Ajmal Kasab were killed during the mayhem. Kasab was later tried and awarded death penalty.
