New Delhi: Vehicle registration plates with unique numbers tend to fetch a high price in India. Something similar has happened in Noida, in which a pharmaceutical company of the city has paid a whopping Rs 27.5 lakh for the coveted ‘UP16FH0001’ vehicle registration plate in a government auction.
The price is a record in the city’s transport department, and Aviorion Pvt Ltd was the bidder. It is a firm with its headquarters in Sector 126, and it aims to assign a unique new-series number to a Mercedes-Benz car. The auction reportedly took place online via the parivahan.gov.in portal of the Centre.
A record bid in Noida transport department
According to Nand Kumar, Noida's assistant regional transport officer, Aviorion Pvt Ltd reportedly bid Rs 27.5 lakh for the vehicle registration plate. It paid the entire bid amount, and it is the record sum that Noida transport department has ever received for a registration number.
A preference for 'fancy numbers'
Those who entered the bidding process had to deposit a security amount of Rs 33,000. Notably, the previous highest bid in the district was Rs 11 lakh paid in September 2025 for the number ‘UP16FD0008’. The bid shows the fascination for ‘fancy numbers’ with the most premium category, which includes sequential digits like 0001, 0002 and 0003, getting astronomical amounts.
India’s most expensive registration number
A couple of weeks ago, India’s most expensive registration number for four-wheelers might have been auctioned in Haryana’s Sonipat district. The auction of the number in question might have set a new record in the country. The number is ‘HR88B8888’ from Kundli town in Sonipat. It fetched a price of Rs 1.17 crore (approximately $1.7 million). While its number is questioned as the most expensive in the country, the same will be registered in Sonipat after being blocked.
