A Reddit post about a Gen Z intern’s leave email has gone viral, leaving netizens divided over the tone of the email.

The email was shared on the subreddit r/IndianWorkplace by a Reddit user working at an AI startup. They were managing three Gen Z interns when one of them sent an unexpectedly candid email requesting time off.

The post was titled, “Corporate world is not ready for Gen Z!” and included a screenshot of the email that left the internet both impressed and confused.

Subjected ‘Going on a trip’, the intern wrote, “Hi, feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the work and my energy feels a little off so not getting that vibe right now. I’ll be out from 28th July to 30th July (please don’t miss me). Here’s my train PNR XXX and attaching the booking slip for reference. Will talk soon, bye.”

The Reddit user admitted they had never received a message like this in their 20-year career, but added that they appreciated the intern’s honesty. “Aisa mail 20 saal ki career mein main kabhi nahi dekha,” they wrote.

The email quickly captured attention online, with many people debating whether the tone was refreshing or unprofessional.

One user said, "It’s an employer’s market right now so I’m not sure the headline is the right way round, but that is indeed a funny message." Another wrote, "Look I’m Gen-Z and I get the desire for a break but there are better ways to say you’re taking one. I find this embarrassingly unprofessional. Nothing wrong with honesty but so many better ways to say this."

A third user added, "We had someone in our company who sent a similar email. They cc'd our client even though they shouldn't have, and it almost cost us a multi-million-dollar contract and numerous jobs. Our boss held a short training on how to send an email to both coworkers and clients."

Someone noted, "Gen Z can send such an email because they’ve grown up with economic comfort. They haven’t seen the same kind of struggle we millennials did. They’ve also watched their parents deal with India’s corporate culture."

A fifth user posted, "What’s surprising? I’ve seen 30+ people take leave to play video games or because the weather felt nice. This just shows a healthier work environment."

Another person commented, "Honestly, this is iconic. We should all take a page out of Gen Z’s book, especially my husband, who hasn’t taken a day off in two months."

Yet another wrote, "Aisa email doston may samajh aaye, lekin boss ke sath? Kabhi nahi."
