PM Modi praises Indias democracy, hails VP Radhakrishnan on first day of Parliaments winter session
Addressing the media ahead of the Parliament session, the Prime Minister also pointed out on the recent Bihar election and said that the large turnout suggested the success of India's democracy.
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that the zeal and enthusiasm of the Indian democracy has been witnessed time and again. He added that the Parliament's winter session, which started today, is not just a ritual.
Addressing the media ahead of the Parliament session, the Prime Minister also pointed out on the recent Bihar election and said that the large turnout suggested the success of India’s democracy.
"This winter session isn't just a ritual...India has a living democracy. The zeal and enthusiasm of democracy have been expressed time and again in such a way that faith in democracy continues to grow stronger," the PM said.
‘India’s economy reaching remarkable heights’
Pointing out India’s growth in the economy, the PM added, " India’s economic rise today is reaching remarkable heights. This momentum gives us renewed confidence on the path towards becoming a developed nation. Our Parliament must stay focused on what it is thinking for the country and what it intends to deliver. The opposition too should fulfil its responsibility and come out of its sadness of losing.”
"On one hand, the world is watching very closely the strengthening of democracy and also the strengthening of the economy within this democratic system. India has proven that Democracy can deliver,” he added.
'Some parties can't accept defeat'
Hitting out at the Opposition over the Bihar Assembly election results, the Prime Minister said that some parties were not able to digest defeat. " Some parties simply cannot accept defeat. I had hoped that with time, leaders would have composed themselves after losing Bihar elections, but their statements yesterday showed that the loss has clearly unsettled them. I urge all parties that the winter session should not become a battleground for frustration born out of defeat, nor should it turn into an arena for arrogance born out of victory,” he noted.
PM Modi hails Vice President Radhakrishnan
Later, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed Vice President said CP Radhakrishnan and said that the he did not take the easy path but faced struggle in life . " During emergency days, you had different energy and the way you encouraged people was an inspiration. You took your responsibilities quite seriously and gave opportunity to the youth.”
"I welcome you as the Chairman of Rajya Sabha and am confident that your tenure will be fruitful in the parliament in the Parliament.” he added further.
