New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, during the debate over Operation Sindoor in the Parliament, refuted US President Donald Trump's claims about stopping the India-Pakistan armed conflict. He asserted that India did not stop Operation Sindoor under any pressure, and dismissed Trump's repeated claims that his threat of cutting trade with India and Pakistan ended the conflict.
In the Parliament, Singh began the discussion on Operation Sindoor in which the Indian Armed Forces destroyed several terrorist bases in Pakistan and the Pakistan-occupied territories. He said that the armed forces paused their strikes on Pakistan as they achieved the objectives fully.
Singh said, "To say or believe that Operation Sindoor was stopped under any pressure is baseless and completely incorrect. India halted the operation as political and military objectives set before and during the conflict had been fully achieved."
Trump has repeatedly claimed that it was he who brokered the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. The Opposition has attacked the government over this issue, with the Centre reiterating that the truce was the result of direct contact between the two countries.
The Defence Minister said, "On May 10, when the Indian Air Force struck hard at multiple airfields in Pakistan, Pakistan admitted defeat and offered to cease hostilities. They spoke to our DGMO and asked us to stop... This offer was accepted with the caveat that this operation has only been paused." He stressed the fact that it was India's relentless attack on Pakistan that forced the latter to come up with a ceasefire offer.
Meanwhile, the Indian Armed Forces have killed three terrorists, including the mastermind of the Pahalgam terror attack, in an encounter in Srinagar under Operation Mahadev. According to reports, the operation killed Suleiman Shah, alias Musa Fauji, the top Lashkar commander who conspired and executed the attack that killed 26 innocent civilians. A joint team comprised of the Army personnel and J&K Police executed the operation. They recovered around 17 grenades, one M4 carbine and two AK-47 rifles from the terrorists' hideout.
