New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on Tuesday in a Parliament session, lashed out at Home Minister Amit Shah when questioned about her mother's tears during the 2008 Batla House attack. Earlier, the debate was initiated with how the Indian Army showcased its bravery responding to the deadly Operation Sindoor and launching Operation Sindoor as a retaliation to the loss of 26 lives on April 22. Slowly, Shah changed the subject and pointed it to the failures of Congress.

The strategy that Shah chose for the debate today was to attack Congress Party based on how it reacted to terror attacks when India was under the UPA-ruled government. Previously in his speech, he also took a dig at Congress MP Chidambaram.

At the start of the session on Tuesday, Amit Shah made a scathing attack on Congress, alleging that Sonia Gandhi cried for the terrorists who died in the Batla House attack in 2008. The Home Minister claimed that he clearly remembers the incident when former Congress leader Salman Khurshid came out of the Gandhi Mansion, claiming that Sonia Gandhi was shedding tears over the Batla House incident. "She should have cried for Mohan Sharma (a senior police officer killed by the terrorists)," Shah added.

To this, Priyanka gave a blistering response to Shah, saying, "Meri maa ke aasu tab gire jab unke pati ko aatankvadiyo ne shaheed kiya," which translates to, my mother cried when her husband (Late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi) was martyred by terrorists.

Congress MP then asked for a clarification to the centre regarding the intelligence failure that led to the Pahalgam attack, asking why a famous tourist spot was not kept under any surveillance. "The Defence Minister (Rajnath Singh) spoke for an hour... everything was spoken about, from Operation Sindoor to terrorism to national security... but one subject was skipped. How did this attack happen? Why did it happen?" she added.

She later attacked the Centre, asking why there were no soldiers deployed in the area knowing that the place attracted a large number of tourists all year round. The people had faith in the ruling government and went there knowing that they were safe.
