Oppn looking to attack Govt on SIRs, other issues
The Opposition parties are looking to attack the government over its alleged interference on the Election Commission in the matter of SIRs and other issues. With the number of working days in this year’s winter session too less, it remains a concern over the productivity of the session.
Earlier on November 26, several ministers had gathered at the residence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to discuss the government’s floor strategy. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has also convened an all-party meeting today to appeal for consensus among all political parties in both Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
Govt looking to discuss on Vande Mataram anniversary
The government is looking to discuss on the 150 anniversary of Vande Mataram. It wants to discuss the complete recital of the song. Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had accused the previous Congress government of removing some parts of the song.
The Centre made it clear that there would be no negotiation on the SIR. It has been said that the revision of the SIR is the routine process of the Election Commission and should not be a subject of discussion in the Parliament. The Modi Government has maintained that the poll body has acted as per the guidance of the Supreme Court.
Centre holds all party meeting
Speaking to reporters after the all-party meeting, arliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said, " "The meeting was very good and very productive. I thank the floor leaders of all political parties. Everyone participated and presented their party's views."
"We will consider all the suggestions received today from the floor leaders of political parties and will then present them to the Business Advisory Committee. 36 political parties and 50 leaders attended this meeting. On behalf of the government, I assure you that we will continue to engage with the opposition in this manner to ensure the smooth functioning of the Winter Session of Parliament," he added.
