New Delhi: In 1853, the British Raj in India decided to connect various regions of this vast country with each other. The primitive modes of transportation prevalent at that time (in the pre-aeroplane era) were not at all suitable for long-distance travel. Hence, the passenger trains were introduced, and they began to operate in 1853.
Trains, a lasting legacy of the British colonial rule in India, have evolved significantly since their inception due to technological advancements. Today, trains have all the modern amenities that a passenger can imagine. At present, the Vande Bharat is probably the most important train for common people in India, and it was launched on February 15, 2019.
The Indian Railways manages the world's fourth-largest national railway system by size, and this vast network has made travel easier for common people who cannot afford to travel by flight at the drop of a hat. Also, the train ticket prices in India are very affordable for the general populace. Hence, trains have emerged in India as the best option for both long and short-distance travel. And when it comes to the premier trains for common people in India, the Vande Bharat Express takes the cake.
The Vande Bharat Express was manufactured under the 'Make in India' initiative of the government. It runs at a high speed, which significantly reduces travel time between cities. The Vande Bharat trains have fully air-conditioned coaches with CCTV cameras, electric outlets, bio-vacuum toilets, reading lights, sensor-based water taps, automatic doors, and a passenger information system. The coaches have wider windows and overhead racks for luggage, and there are options of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals.
