New Delhi: A pilot has been accused of raping a female co-pilot during a layover in Bengaluru. The incident allegedly took place while they were on duty for a chartered flight.
Following the woman's complaint, a case was initially registered in Hyderabad, and it was later transferred to Bengaluru, where the crime allegedly took place. The Bengaluru Police is probing the incident.
The woman said in her complaint that on 18 November, she and two male co-pilots travelled from Hyderabad's Begumpet Airport on a special chartered flight to Bengaluru via Puttaparthi. They had to operate another flight the next day, and hence they checked into the same hotel for the night.
At night, the accused, identified as pilot Rohit Sharan, allegedly asked the woman co-pilot to accompany him for a smoke. She agreed, and they walked towards his hotel room. Sharan allegedly pulled her inside when they reached near his room and raped her.
After arriving at Begumpet Airport, the female pilot reported the incident to the flight management and later filed a complaint at the Begumpet police station. The police registered a case against the accused, and the case has been transferred to Bengaluru Police, where the crime took place, with an investigation into the matter going on.
