PM Modi has blood of Pahalgam victims on his hands: Rahul Gandhi in Parliament
LOP Rahul Gandhi slammed the Centre during a heated debate about Operation Sindoor on Tuesday.
New Delhi: Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Modi-led government, by criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi of having the blood of Pahalgam victims on his hands. When the debate about Operation Sindoor escalated, he further added that the Centre tried to maintain the public image of Modi after the Pahalgam incident. The LOP stated India needs a leader who is concerned about the nation's well-being rather than his public image, he added.
Later in the debate, he also attacked the Centre for hindering tasks of the Indian Army by telling Pakistan that India does not want escalation.
'Govt tied forces' hands behind their back'
Earlier in the debate, when Defence Minister Rajnath Singh compared the 1971 war with Operation Sindoor, Rahul Gandhi countered him, saying, then PM Indira Gandhi during her tenure gave the military the autonomy to decide according to their will. When former Army Chief Sam Manekshaw urged the PM that he needs six months to launch the operation, and that he does not wish to start it in summer, Gandhi agreed to it. As a result, over one lakh soldiers surrendered, leading to the formation of Bangladesh after the victory.
Whereas in Operation Sindoor, the "DGMO India was told by government of India to ask for a ceasefire at 1.35 itself, you told Pakistanis exactly what you would do, you told them you would not want escalation," Rahul asserted. "Told Pakistanis India's political will -- we don't want to fight...Govt tied forces' hands behind their back, a mistake was made by political leadership not to let IAF attack Pakistan's military infrastructure, "the LOP claimed.
'Does PM have guts to ask Trump to apologise?'
The Congress MP then questioned PM Modi's silence on multiple claims made by US President Donald Trump of administering peace between India and Pakistan. "Donald Trump has said 29 times that he brokered the ceasefire. Fine, if he’s lying, then let Prime Minister Modi say it clearly in his speech here: You are lying. If he has the courage of Indira Gandhi, let him stand here and say Donald Trump, you are a liar," Rahul Gandhi said.
