Delhi: PM Modi inaugurates Dwarka Expressways section, Urban Extension Road-II
Reports say, the new link is expected to reduce travel time from Indira Gandhi International Airport to various points in southwest and northwest Delhi by 40 to 60 per cent.
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated two major National Highway projects. The PM opened the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II. Both these projects have been built at an estimated cost of Rs 11,000 crore.
The project reflects Prime Minister Modi's aim of "creating world-class infrastructure that enhances ease of living and ensures seamless mobility", the Prime Minister's Office has said ahead of the inauguration event at Rohini today. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari are also attending at the event.
BJP will fill up ditch
The new projects will aid the commute of people in the Delhi-NCR region, the Prime Minister said. "I congratulate the people of Delhi-NCR for this modern connectivity. When the world judges India, it first looks at our capital, Delhi. We have to make Delhi a model of a developed India. Our government has worked on this at multiple levels. In the past 11 years, travel has become easier in Delhi NCR."
"After a long time, there is a BJP government in Delhi. The previous governments put Delhi in a ditch. The BJP government has to fill up that ditch and then progress will be seen. But I believe this team you have elected will pull Delhi out of that situation," the Prime Minister asserted.
He further added, "there are some political parties that are still unable to digest the people's blessings. They have become completely disconnected from the people’s trust and ground realities. You may recall that a few months ago, efforts were made to create hostility between the people of Delhi and Haryana, pitting them against each other. It was even said that the people of Haryana were poisoning Delhi's water. Today, Delhi and the entire NCR have been freed from such negative politics"
Boost to regional connectivity
The longer stretch ranges to 5.9 km runs from Shiv Murti intersection to Dwarka Sector-21, while the remaining 4.2 km links Dwarka Sector-21 to the Delhi-Haryana border. In March 2024, PM Modi inaugurated the 19 km Haryana section of the expressway.
Reports say, the new link is expected to reduce travel time from Indira Gandhi International Airport to various points in southwest and northwest Delhi by 40 to 60 per cent.
The second project is the Alipur–Dichaon Kalan stretch of the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), along with new links to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat. Built at an estimated cost of Rs 5,580 crore, this road is part of the government’s broader plan to decongest the capital, reduce travel time, and enhance regional connectivity. Both projects are expected to greatly cut traffic load on key routes, provide faster travel options, and improve access between Delhi and its neighbouring cities.
