Somnath: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday attended the Swabhiman Parv in Gujarat's Somnath temple . He participated in the 72-hour-long Omkar Mantra chanting, a part of the three-day event, and also offered prayers at the temple on the first day of his visit. The PM will be in the state till Monday.
PM Modi in Somnath to attend Swabhiman Parv
The Somnath Swabhiman Parv started on January 8 and will continue till January 11. It is being held to mark 1,000 years since the first recorded attack on the temple in 1026 by Mahmud of Ghazni.
"Feeling blessed to be in Somnath, a proud symbol of our civilisational courage. This visit comes during Somnath Swabhiman Parv, when the entire nation has come together to mark a thousand years since the first attack on the Somnath Temple in 1026. Grateful to the people for the warm welcome,” PM Modi wrote on X.
PM Modi to offer prayers on Sunday
The PM will attend 'Shaurya Yatra' on Sunday morning. It will be a ceremony to honour those who laid down their lives to protect the temple. It will feature a symbolic procession of 108 horses, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) said in a statement. After this, the PM will offer prayers at the temple, followed by participating in a public function marking Somnath Swabhiman Parv.
PM to attend vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference
The same day, the PM will be in Rajkot to take part in the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference (VGRC) for the Kutch and Saurashtra region. He will also inaugurate the trade show and exhibition.
The PM will then leave for Ahmedabad. He will inaugurate the remaining stretch of Phase 2 of the Ahmedabad metro from Sector 10A (Sachivalaya) to Mahatma Mandir.
PM Modi to receive German Chancellor on Monday
On Monday, the PM will receive German Chancellor Friedrich Merz at the Ahmedabad Airport. Both leaders will then visit Sabarmati Ashram, which was home to Mahatma Gandhi during India's freedom struggle. They will then participate in the International Kite Festival.
