Earlier that evening, the customer had allegedly ordered vegetarian biryani for takeaway. Upon reaching home, he discovered that he had been given chicken biryani instead. He called Nag to complain and an argument ensued over the phone. The customer who was drove back to the restaurant to confront the owner in person.

The verbal altercation soon escalated into a heated scuffle. “In the middle of the fight, the customer pulled out a gun and shot Vijay in the chest before escaping in a car,” a police officer said as quoted by the Indian Express.

Locals who heard the gunshot rushed to the restaurant and found Nag lying in a pool of blood. He was immediately taken to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS). Doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Probe underway

Police from Kanke police station along with senior officials reached the scene and began an investigation. CCTV footage from nearby establishments is being examined to identify the accused and their vehicle.

Kanke MLA and Congress leader Suresh Kumar Baitha said that preliminary reports suggest that the dispute arose after the customer allegedly found chicken bones in his vegetarian biryani. However, he also added that the killing might have been influenced by an underlying property dispute.

Family members of the victim staged a protest outside the restaurant on Sunday, demanding that the police arrest all the accused within 24 hours. They said that if no action was taken, they would launch a larger protest across the city.
