New Delhi: Amid deepening controversies, the Delhi Police has narrowed down two closed online groups that were created on encrypted platforms. The group was formed in 2021 and is believed to have members with medical backgrounds. As of now, no direct links have been established with Al Falah University.
Investigating teams have scanned multiple areas across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Uttarakhand to trace the members and examine their possible connection to the conspiracy.
During a thorough probe, the police discovered suspicious activity from at least seven members of these groups. Since then, they have been under the scanner of the Delhi Police Special Cell teams assisting the NIA in the blast probe, officers said.
Police teams are currently stationed in Deoband and Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, as well as in parts of Bihar and Uttarakhand. The search will be followed by a series of identification, tracing, and interrogation procedures involving all seven suspects believed to be linked to Nabi. Nabi is a doctor from Jammu and Kashmir, according to at least two individuals familiar with the matter.
A senior officer involved in the case said that the Telegram and Signal groups were tightly controlled spaces with restricted membership and guarded conversations. Moreover, the Telegram group was created in 2021—one year after the northeast Delhi riots. The timing appeared suspicious to investigators, prompting them to examine whether the polarisation following the riots played a role in bringing the members together.
Another officer said investigators are still working to confirm the real identities of the members, many of whom used pseudonyms and code words. While some information from Telegram has helped police narrow down the seven suspects, they are yet to receive data from the second platform.
One officer stated that they are still trying to uncover the true identities of the members, as most used pseudonyms and coded language. Police confirmed that further investigations are underway.
