Patna: JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar took oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar on Thursday for a record 10th time, a week after NDA's thumping victory and his party's stellar performance in Bihar Assembly elections. The swearing-in ceremony was held at Patna's historic Gandhi Maidan in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other top leaders of the NDA. Governor Arif Mohammed Khan administered the oath of office and secrecy to him.
Along with Kumar, 19 MLAs were also sworn in as ministers at the ceremony. The ministers who took oath include, BJP's Dilip Jaiswal, Mangal Pandey, Ashok Chaudhary, Vijay Kumar Sinha, Samrat Choudhary and JD(U)'s Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Bijendra Prasad Yadav and Shrowan Kumar.
Others who were sworn in as ministers include, Md Zama Khan, Sanjay Singh Tiger, Arun Shankar Prasad, Surendra Mehta, Narayan Prasad, Rama Nishad, Leshi Singh, Nitin Nabin, Madan Sahni, Ram Kripal Yadav. Santosh Kumar Suman, Sunil Kumar, Lakhendra Kumar Raushan, Shreyasi Singh, Dr. Pramod Kumar, Sanjay Kumar, Sanjay Kumar Singh, and Deepak Prakash also took oath as ministers.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP chief JP Nadda and chief ministers of NDA ruled states also attended the event.
Kumar resigned as the Bihar CM on Wednesday and then staked claim before the Governor to form the new government. According to sources, the new Cabinet is expected to be expanded after Makar Sankranti on January 14 next year.
The NDA retained power in Bihar, winning 202 seats in the 243-member Assembly. While the main constituents of the NDA BJP and JD(U) bagged 89 and 85 seats respectively, other allies including LJP(RV), HAM(S) 5 and RLM won 19, 5 and 4 seats.
