New Delhi: Trains play a crucial role in the everyday life of India, enabling people to travel from one place to another in this vast land without burning a hole in their pockets. Since the fares of plane tickets in India are comparatively higher, the trains are the best resort for both long and short-distance travels and the most popular public transport in India.
It was in 1853 that passenger trains in India began their journey. Since then, the railways in our country have evolved considerably, becoming a lasting legacy of the colonial British Raj. Since the introduction of trains in India, they have undergone significant transformation thanks to technological advancements. Today, the trains are not just a necessary mode of transport but also hubs of modern amenities and luxuries. Now, passengers can enjoy a host of modern comforts in a train.
Even some 10 years ago, modern trains in India meant the likes of the Rajdhani Express and the Shatabdi Express, which, despite being equipped with modern facilities, lacked the impact to transform Indian Railways. It happened on February 15, 2019, when the government introduced the Vande Bharat Express under the 'Make in India' initiative. Today, for the common people, it is arguably the most high-profile train whose high speed has ensured a significantly reduced travel time between cities, much to the relief of the passengers.
