New Delhi: At least four people, including a police officer, were killed after a gunman opened fire inside a Midtown Manhattan building in New York City on Monday. The shooter has been identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura. Emergency crews were dispatched to the Park Avenue office building around 6:30 pm after reports of the shooting spread.
A number of country's top financial firms, including private equity giant Blackstone, KPMG, and the National Football League, have their offices in the building.
Tamura reportedly was armed with a rifle. After fatally shooting four people and critically injuring a fifth, he took his own life, according to officials.
Tamura was a native of Hawaii, who moved to Las Vegas later. A former football player, the man reportedly held a concealed firearms permit. The permit was issued to him on June 14, 2022, and was valid for five years. He also had a private investigator license, which had expired.
He played football for Granada Hills. Tamura was reportedly a standout running back who graduated from high school in 2016. According to the New York Post, Tamura recently was employed as a security guard at a Las Vegas casino. Tamura's blood-stained rifle, a Palmetto State Armory AR-15 assault rifle, was recovered by the cops.
As indicated by some unconfirmed reports, Tamura may have failed to make it into the NFL, which could have been a possible motive for targeting the building where the league’s headquarters are located.
