New Delhi: Security forces on Monday gunned down three terrorists Pakistani terrorists in an encounter near Srinagar, two of them involved in the Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 innocent lives on April 22.
Among the three killed in encounter, one attacker, identified as Suleiman Shah aka Hashim Moosa, is believed to be the mastermind behind the Pahalgam massacre. The Jammu and Kashmir Police has announced a reward of Rs 20 lakh for credible information about the attackers' whereabouts.
Suleiman Shah was one of the notorious terrorists who was under the radar of intelligence agencies for a long time. Moosa alias Suleiman, a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist, was previously a commando of the Pakistan Army's elite unit - Special Service Group (SSG). he then joined the UN-designated terrorist Hafiz Saeed's LeT to carry out terror activities, NDTV reported.
Suleiman entered India in September 2023 and started terror operations in South Kashmir. In 2024, he carried out an attack in which seven civilians were killed when terrorists opened fire on a camp housing workers of a private company who were building a tunnel. He was also involved in an attack in Baramulla in which four security personnel were killed in action. In total, Moosa was involved in six terrorists attacks, the report added. Moosa was believed to be hiding in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district in the weeks after the attack.
The Jammu and Kashmir police told the NDTV that "a prolonged operation and is still continuing in which J&K police, paramilitary and army have an exchange of fire (with terrorists) in higher reaches. As per the interior reports, three bodies are being observed and seem to be neutralised. It is an ongoing operation and I would not like to divulge much at this moment. We will share details with you at an opportune time. It will take us some time for identification and all that. The (security) parties are still inside."
