New Delhi: A SpiceJet flight en route from Mumbai to Kolkata made an emergency landing late Sunday night after one of its engines experienced a technical snag mid-flight, sending a jolt of concern through its more than 170 passengers.
The aircraft, identified as flight SG670, touched down safely at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport at approximately 11:38 PM, following the pilot's declaration of a full emergency. Airport officials have confirmed that all passengers and crew members disembarked without injury.
The harrowing journey took a tense turn shortly before the aircraft's descent when the pilot detected abnormal behaviour from one of the engines. Immediately recognising the potential severity of the situation, the pilot alerted air traffic control. In response, a state of full emergency was declared at the Kolkata airport, with all necessary emergency services placed on standby in anticipation of the aircraft's arrival.
Following the successful and safe landing, the full emergency status was promptly lifted. While the exact cause of the engine malfunction remains under investigation, SpiceJet has confirmed that an internal inquiry has been initiated to determine the specifics of the technical issue. The airline has not yet released further details regarding the incident.
