New Delhi: A suspicious bag was found outside the government bungalow of Maharashtra BJP leader and minister Nitesh Rane, known as Suvarnagad, triggering security concerns on Tuesday.
According to preliminary information, an unidentified person allegedly left the bag outside the bungalow before fleeing the spot. Following the alert, security and investigative agencies rushed to the location and launched a search operation to trace the individual involved.
Authorities are also conducting a detailed probe to ascertain the contents of the bag. Security around the area has been tightened as a precautionary measure. Senior officers emphasised protocol, "All abandoned objects are treated as potential threats until proven otherwise," reflecting heightened vigilance post recent hoax incidents across Maharashtra.
The incident highlights the fragile security environment surrounding public figures in India’s financial capital, where even anonymous acts can hint at deeper political or personal rivalries. Minister Rane’s bungalow—long a symbol of his political standing—has now become the centre of an active investigation.
Police have intensified patrols in the area and assured swift action to identify the person responsible. Investigators are examining whether the act was the work of a prankster, an activist, or a credible security threat. As CCTV footage is closely analysed, authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, stressing the need to ensure the minister’s safety and maintain public calm amid the developing probe.
In recent days, Nitesh Rane has reportedly received threats, allegedly linked to his outspoken pro-Hindutva statements. The minister has frequently made headlines for his controversial speeches at public events.
Meanwhile, political tensions escalated further after Samajwadi Party leader Abu Asim Azmi allegedly made derogatory remarks against Rane, reportedly calling him a “dwarf minister” and issuing a threat to cut off his tongue.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
