Chennai: In a major disappointment for fans and the film industry, actor-politician Vijay’s highly anticipated film 'Jana Nayagan' has been officially postponed from its scheduled January 9 release due to the unresolved delay in obtaining a censor certificate. The film’s production company, KVN Productions, issued an emotional statement announcing the decision, citing "unavoidable circumstances beyond our control.”

he statement read: "With heavy hearts, we are giving this update to our fans and stakeholders. We were waiting for the release of 'Jana Nayagan' on January 9th. However, due to unavoidable circumstances beyond our control, the film's release has now been postponed.”

It added, "We deeply understand the anticipation, excitement, and emotions surrounding this film, and this decision was not easy for any of us. An alternative release date for the film will be announced soon. Until then, we request you to remain calm and continue your support.”

Legal and Certification Hurdles

The postponement comes after a prolonged tussle with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film, which reportedly contains political undertones and references to religious and military symbols, was submitted for certification in December. After the CBFC’s examining committee suggested edits on December 19, the revised version was resubmitted, but clearance was unexpectedly delayed.

The matter reached the Madras High Court, where Justice P.T. Asha directed the CBFC to submit the written complaint that had triggered a referral to a review committee. The court has scheduled the next hearing for January 9—the film’s original release date—effectively sealing the postponement.

Fan Disappointment and Political Context

The delay is a significant setback for Vijay’s fans, who had been gearing up for a festive Pongal release, especially since Jana Nayagan is touted as his final film before he focuses fully on politics with the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The film’s grand music launch in Malaysia and a widely discussed trailer had heightened expectations.
