Chennai: In a welcome move for festival-bound passengers, Southern Railway has announced the operation of 10 additional special trains ahead of Pongal, to accommodate the surge in travel demand. With Pongal falling on January 15, these trains will connect major destinations like Tirunelveli (Nellai), Tambaram, Chengalpattu, Chennai Central, and Thoothukudi. Ticket booking for these services begins today.
The special trains are scheduled to run between January 12 and January 20, catering to passengers traveling to their hometowns and back after the celebrations.
Pongal Special Train Services:
These additions come after the regular trains had reached full capacity, reinforcing Southern Railway’s efforts to manage the seasonal rush. Passengers are advised to book their tickets promptly through the IRCTC website, mobile app, or reservation counters.
