New Delhi: A techie took to Reddit to detail how the ending of his short stint at a US-based law firm did not go as expected. The techie stated that the CEO threatened him with legal action if he left the organisation without completing a notice period of two months.

Sharing the story on Reddit, the techie wrote that he joined the firm as a full-stack developer. However, the man could not cope with the inhumane deadlines and the additional work on Sundays. Consequently, the man decided to call it quits. However, the CEO of the firm had a strong reaction to the man's resignation. The CEO threatened the man with legal action if he did not complete the notice period, claiming that the firm wasted its resources on him.

“I resigned today after getting another bulky requirement. I informed the team leads — no issues from them. But the CEO called me on WhatsApp and verbally threatened legal action if I absconded without serving the notice period. No bad language, but plenty of threats,” wrote the Redditor.

Meanwhile, the techie disagreed with the CEO's claim. "Nobody trained me. I work on my personal laptop,” said the techie. He added that the HR also supported the CEO and told him he would not get paid without serving the notice period.

“I don’t care about any reference or experience letter. It was just three weeks. I’ll find something else,” said the CEO. The techie further added that he was planning to consult a lawyer. He asked fellow Redditors for advice.

Netizens were quick to help the man. One told the techie to stop engaging with the firm and return any of their items. Another individual asked the man to calm down and have patient conversations with those from the organisation. "They can tell you to work, but they can’t dictate how fast you deliver,” said a user.
