BRS MLAs who defected to Congress meet CM Revanth Reddy amid speaker notices

The Supreme court on July 31 directed the speaker to make a decision in three months on the petitions for disqualifications. The petitions were filed by BRS working president KT Rama Rao and other BRS MLAs.

Hyderabad: Nine of the ten MLAs who defected from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) to Congress, met CM Revanth Reddy at his residence on Sunday, September 7 to discuss the future course of action, reports said.

The meeting comes after the Supreme Court on July 31, directed Telangana Assembly Speaker to decide on the disqualification of the ten defected MLAs in three months. Barring Kadiyam Srihari, all MLAs who defected were present at the meeting.

In the closed door meeting with the CM, the legislators reportedly discussed the legal and political implications of the notices that were issued to them by Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad.

Defected MLAs claim they are still with BRS:

The defected lawmakers maintain that they are still with the BRS and cite their Assembly record, which still name them as BRS MLAs. They claimed that they met the CM to discuss and seek funds for the development of their constituencies.

The apex court on July 31 directed the speaker to make a decision in three months on the petitions for disqualifications. The petitions were filed by BRS working president KT Rama Rao and T Harish Rao.

The opposition party BRS has urged Speaker Gaddam Prasad to disqualify all MLAs who defected to Congress in March 2024.

The defected MLAs include: Danam Nagender (Khairatabad constituency), Tellam Venkat Rao (Bhadradri Kothagudem), Kadiyam Srihari (Station Ghanpur), Pocharam Srinivas Reddy (Banswada), M Sanjay Kumar (Jagtial), Arekapudi Gandhi (Serilingampally), T Prakash Goud (Rajendranagar), B Krishna Mohan Reddy (Gadwal), G Mahipal Reddy (Patancheru), Kale Yadaiah (Chevalla).
