Hyderabad: Cold wave and foggy conditions persisted in the city over the last few days with HCU Serilingampally recording the lowest temperature of 8.4°C.

As per India Meteorological Department in Hyderabad, minimum temperatures will be below normal by 2°C to 3°C over the next two days.

Rajendranagar recorded 8.9°C followed by Quthbullapur, which recorded 10.7°C. Other areas that recorded low temperatures include Alwal (11.0°C), Sivaramapalle (11.2°C), Maredpally (11.2°C), Bollaram (11.3°C), Jeedimetla (12.0°C), Gachibowli (12.1°C).

Kohir in Sangareddy recorded 6.6°C on January 9 while recorded Tiryani in Komarambheem Asifabad district recorded 7.1°C. Moinabad in Rangareddy recorded 7.2°C and Marpalle in Vikarabad recorded 8.2°C.

The cold wave is expected to persist for the next 36 hours, after which respite from cold weather is likely, weather blogger T Balaji said.

Amaravati meteorological officials stated that the low-pressure area centered over the southwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining eastern equatorial Indian Ocean is likely to move in a west-northwesterly direction and cross the Sri Lankan coast. They also said that it is likely to be foggy in some parts of the state.

The Amaravati Meteorological Department warned that due to this system, light to moderate rains are likely in South Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema on January 11, 12.

The cyclone warning center has issued a warning for Visakhapatnam, Machilipatnam, Gangavaram, Kakinada, Nizampatnam, and Krishnapatnam ports due to the influence of this low-pressure area. The intensity of the cold has also increased slightly. The lowest temperatures recorded were 14 degrees Celsius in Vizianagaram and 20.8 degrees Celsius in Nellore.
