New Delhi: The survivor in the Unnao rape case on Wednesday evening met Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi at 10 Janpath, the residence of former Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
Speaking to reporters before the meeting, the survivor said, "We just want to meet them and tell them what we are going through." She was accompanied by women's rights activist Yogita Bhayana. The survivor added that she also wished to meet the Prime Minister, the Union Home Minister, and the President. "I want justice," she said.
The meeting came hours after the survivor's mother was allegedly manhandled by central paramilitary personnel in Delhi. The paramilitary had prevented the survivor and her mother from addressing the media and allegedly forced the elderly woman to jump off a moving bus.
The survivor and her mother have been protesting the Delhi high court's decision to grant bail to former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar by suspending his life sentence in the rape case.
Sengar, however, will remain in jail despite the bail order, as he is also serving a 10-year sentence in connection with the custodial death of the survivor's father.
Earlier in the day, reacting to the bail to Sengar, Rahul described it "deeply disappointing and shameful".
