Lucknow: The BJP will get the president of its Uttar Pradesh unit on Sunday. The election for the post of UP BJP chief will be held on December 14, while nomination papers will be filed on December 13. The election is necessitated as the current state president, Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary, completed his term in January last year.
Mahendra Nath Pandey, the party's organisational election officer, stated that the nomination process for the presidential election will be completed at the party office on Saturday from 1 pm to 3 pm. Central election officer and Union minister Piyush Goyal will announce the new president of the BJP's UP unit on Sunday.
Who are frontrunners?
Pankaj Chaudhary: Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary's name is in the news for the post of UP state president. Known as the face of Kurmi community in the state, his stature in the party has steadily increased. Kurmi is the second largest backward caste in the state after Yadavs. He is one of the senior-most BJP leaders in Uttar Pradesh and vast experience in organisational and governance. Chaudhary, a seven-time MP from the Maharajganj constituency, is also considered a close associate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. PM Modi also visited his home once.
BL Verma: BL Verma is one of the probable candidates for the key post. Verma, a Union minister, is the party's face for the backward classes. He is considered close to BJP national general secretary Sunil Bansal.
Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti: Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti is also among the frontrunners for UP BJP president post. She comes from the extremely backward Nishad community. As a Sadhvi, she shares good relations with both the central leadership and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Dharampal Singh: Singh, a minister in the UP government, is also being considered as one of the contenders for the post. Singh, an OBC leader, is in-charge of the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Department in the state. He represents Amla Assembly constituency.
Amarpal Maurya: Amarpal Maurya is one of the backward class faces of the Uttar Pradesh BJP. He has extensive organisational experience, serving as the state general secretary. He joined the party after working for the RSS. He has experience working with former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti. He is currently a Rajya Sabha MP.
