Uttarakhand weather: Orange alert for rain, snowfall and hailstorms in several hilly districts

Dehradun: The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for rain and snowfall in several mountainous districts of Uttarakhand. Along with rain and snow, hailstorms, lightning, and strong winds are also expected in many areas.

For the past several days, Uttarakhand has been experiencing dry weather, leading to drought‑like conditions in some regions. Farmers and common people have been waiting for rain, but earlier forecasts have not brought much relief. In high‑altitude areas, light snowfall was recorded, while lower regions remained dry. On Thursday, Dehradun saw bright sunshine during the day, but cold winds in the evening made people shiver.

Orange alert in mountain districts

According to the Meteorological Center, the orange alert covers Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh. Snowfall is more likely in areas above 2,300 meters. Strong winds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour are expected, which may affect normal life in several districts.

Yellow alert for other regions

A yellow alert has also been issued for hailstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in other districts of the state. The department has warned of cold day conditions in some areas, advising people to remain cautious. The weather is expected to continue in this pattern until January 28th.

Temperature changes ahead

Light to very light rain is expected in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts. The Meteorological Department has predicted that the minimum temperature may rise by two to three degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours. However, after two to three days, the minimum temperature is expected to drop again by three to four degrees Celsius.

The forecast has brought hope to farmers who have been struggling with dry conditions. Rain and snowfall will not only provide relief from the drought‑like situation but also help in maintaining soil moisture for crops. Residents in the plains are also waiting for rain to ease the dry cold.
