Dehradun: The winter season in Uttarakhand has turned harsher with dry cold spreading across the state. According to the Meteorological Center, there is no forecast of rain until December 19. This absence of winter showers has increased the chill, especially during the night.
Experts say minimum temperatures across the state will fall by 2 to 3 degrees in the next four to five days. This drop will make nights colder and increase the severity of dry cold. However, bright sunshine during the day will provide some comfort to people.
Dehradun experienced a mix of sunshine and clouds yesterday
On Sunday, Dehradun experienced a mix of sunshine and clouds. The changing weather gave residents some relief from the chill. The maximum temperature in Dehradun was recorded at 23.4 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was 9.2 degrees Celsius.
Pantnagar remained warmer with a maximum of 26.0 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 6.9 degrees Celsius. In Mukteshwar, the maximum temperature was 16.9 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 5.3 degrees Celsius. New Tehri recorded a maximum of 16.4 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 4.8 degrees Celsius.
Climate change and shifting weather patterns are the reasons
Climate change and shifting weather patterns are being seen as major reasons behind this unusual dry cold. The lack of winter rain is affecting both the environment and daily life. Farmers are also worried as winter crops depend on timely rainfall.
State govt is preparing to promote winter tourism
Meanwhile, the state government is preparing to promote winter tourism. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed officials to start heli-skiing and the Himalayan car rally as part of winter travel activities. Tourism bodies KMVN and GMVN have been asked to complete all arrangements by December 20.
Under the “One District One Festival” plan, the government will organize a grand festival in every district. Along with this, an international-level festival will also be held in Uttarakhand to attract tourists from across the world.
Officials believe these events will boost local business and encourage winter travel despite the cold. The government hopes that visitors will enjoy the beauty of the Himalayas, winter sports, and cultural programs.
Residents are advised to prepare for colder nights
For now, residents are advised to prepare for colder nights and keep warm. With no rain forecast this week, the dry cold is expected to continue. Sunshine during the day may bring some relief, but the chill of winter nights will remain strong.
