Dehradun: On August 19, Uttarakhand is once again under a yellow alert for heavy rain in seven districts—Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Dehradun, and Nainital.
The Meteorological Department has warned of thunderstorms, lightning, and intense spells of rain at isolated places across the state.
Preparations for possible waterlogging and flash floods
Although the intensity of rainfall has reduced in many areas, the aftermath continues to disrupt daily life. The State Emergency Operations Center has issued warnings to district authorities, urging them to stay alert and prepare for possible waterlogging and flash floods, especially in Bageshwar, Chamoli, Champawat, Dehradun, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Tehri, and Uttarkashi.

In Dehradun, the weather remained cloudy on Monday morning, with light to moderate showers in several parts. The sun appeared briefly in the afternoon, bringing humid heat that made conditions uncomfortable. By evening, cooler winds offered some relief, but clouds returned at night, signaling more rain ahead.
187 roads across the state are closed
In the hill districts, rain continues to fall in patches, causing landslides and blocking roads. According to the latest update, 187 roads across the state are closed, including six national highways. Of these, 104 roads are in rural areas, making it difficult for villagers to access essential services.
Large boulders fell on the Dharchula-Tawaghat national highway
In Pithoragarh district, large boulders fell on the Dharchula-Tawaghat national highway, halting vehicle movement. Debris has also blocked the Ghatiyabagh-Lipulekh highway, adding to the travel woes. In Chamoli, one national and two state highways are shut, while Pauri has one national and one state highway closed. Uttarkashi is facing closures on two national highways, and Tehri has two state highways blocked due to landslides.
Moderate rainfall will continue in many area
The Meteorological Center has stated that while heavy rain may slow down over the next few days, moderate rainfall will continue in many areas. Most districts, including Dehradun, are expected to remain partly cloudy with chances of isolated heavy showers.
Despite the challenges, the administration is working to clear debris and restore road connectivity. Rescue teams are on standby, and efforts are being made to ensure the safety of travelers and residents in vulnerable areas.
