New Delhi: The Kanwar Yatra is currently underway across the country, but several incidents of violence by Kanwariyas are casting a shadow over the religious pilgrimage. In one such shocking case, a video from Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur has gone viral, showing a group of Kanwariyas assaulting a CRPF jawan at a railway station.
The incident occurred at the Mirzapur railway station where the jawan, dressed in uniform, was reportedly about to board the Brahmaputra Express to Manipur. A verbal altercation with a group of Kanwariyas escalated quickly. This led to the jawan being brutally beaten. In the viral footage, Kanwariyas can be seen punching and kicking the CRPF personnel while bystanders recorded the attack without intervening.
After the incident, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) registered a case against three Kanwariyas. Apart from that, four minors involved in the attack have been handed over to the Child Line. Efforts are on to identify and arrest the remaining culprits. The jawan, a member of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), reportedly sustained injuries during the assault. Despite the presence of several people at the scene, no one came forward to help or stop the attackers, sparking outrage on social media.
This is not an isolated case. Since the beginning of the holy month of Sawan and the commencement of the Kanwar Yatra, there have been multiple reports of unruly behaviour and violence by Kanwariyas. Just recently, in Haridwar’s Har Ki Pauri area, a brawl broke out among Kanwariyas near Shiv Vishram Grih, which ended in vandalism and chaos.
