New Delhi: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Assam Police, probing the mysterious death of a popular singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg has received the viscera report from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), New Delhi. This report will play an important role in determining whether the singer was poisoned before he died in Singapore.
Zubeen Garg, 52, drowned while swimming during a yacht party in Singapore on September 19. According to reports, Additional Director General of Police (CID) and SIT chief Munna Prashad Gupta said the toxicology findings have been shared with the postmortem examination. “Once the medical board completes its analysis, the final report will be submitted to the court and shared with the family,” Gupta said.
The senior officer confirmed that seven people have been arrested so far in connection with the case and remain in police custody. “We have also issued notices to several individuals in Singapore who were present at the yacht party. One of them has already joined the investigation and recorded a statement before the SIT, while others are expected to cooperate soon,” he added.
The SIT has also sent a Mutual Legal Assistance Request (MLAR) to Singapore through the central government. The request is, however, currently under review by Singaporean authorities. It seeks help in collecting evidence, examining witnesses and verifying the sequence of events leading to the singer's death. "Evidence collection in Singapore will be carried out by their authorities as per international legal procedures,” Gupta clarified.
The officer said that all angles including food poisoning, negligence and conspiracy are being thoroughly examined. “The investigation is progressing swiftly, and we aim to submit the chargesheet within the legally stipulated timeframe,” Gupta said.
