New Delhi: Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, along with the India Bloc MPs will march from the Parliament to the Election Commission to protest against "vote chori" (vote theft) on Monday. The protest march is expected to start at around 11:30 am and the members will meet the election commissioners to address their objections to the officials.

On August 8, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged in a press conference that the EC combined with the central government, had manipulated nearly 1 lakh votes, showing evidence to the public in the event. Rahul Gandhi had earlier accused the BJP of "vote chori" and demanded a "clean voter roll" ensuring a free and fair elections in the country.

Gandhi stressed on the fact the Congress MP said on X that vote theft is "an attack on the foundational idea of one man, one vote". He added that their demand from EC is a "transparent and release digital voter rolls", for the common people and parties to audit them. The real fight is to retain democracy.

Congress general secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal then drew a parallel between the protest against alleged voter theft, directing the Centre and the EC to a "do-or-die” mission to protect India's democracy, and stated the party will consult about its upcoming plans at the next meeting.

Stressing the significance of upholding the democracy of the country, Venugopal wrote on X, "Just as Bapu gave us the 'Do or Die' call during the Quit India movement, we today must embark upon a similar do-or-die mission to save Indian democracy.”

Venugopal asserted that the Congress will hold its next meeting on August 11, where the party's general secretaries, in-charges, and frontal organisation heads would also be present. The meeting would be chaired by party president Mallikarjun Kharge and aim to discuss the next phase of the protest against the "vote chori" campaign.
