New Delhi: In an unprecedented incident in Haryana, an MP slapped a crane operator, turning a celebration of unity and respect into one of chaos and outrage. The incident took place at Semriya Chowk, near the BR Ambedkar statue, during the 'Run for Unity' event organized to mark the day.

The episode sparked widespread controversy among the public and opposition parties, with many questioning the party’s stance on equality and brotherhood.

What led to the chaos at the event

A video of the incident shows MP Ganesh Singh stepping out of the hydraulic box and, in a fit of anger, slapping the operator across the face. The entire episode unfolded in the presence of police officials, who remained silent.

Sources said the machine had jerked due to a minor technical fault. "The operator was only doing his job. The sudden jerk was mechanical, but the MP lost his temper,” said a municipal worker who witnessed the incident.

One of the MP’s representatives, identified as Neeta Soni, downplayed the incident, calling it "just a mere slap.” She also emphasized that the accident could have caused injury to the MP.

Congress lashes out

The episode invited a wave of criticism. The Congress launched a scathing attack, describing the act as a "display of arrogance and power intoxication.” State party spokesperson Abhinav Baraulia claimed the incident reveals "the true face of the BJP, where leaders believe they own both public servants and the public alike.”

The incident is deeply ironic, as an event meant to celebrate unity and respect devolved into chaos over questions of equality. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether any disciplinary action will be taken against the MP or if the municipal employee has filed a complaint.
