Ahead of polls, Mamata Banerjee to give 45,000 clubs in Bengal Rs 1.10 lakh each for Durga Puja

Last year, she announced a donation of Rs 85,000 to the clubs. But this time, the amount of the donation per club has been increased by Rs 25,000 and she announced a donation of Rs 1 lakh 10 thousand.

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced a massive grant for every club in the state organising Durga Puja.

Last year, she announced a donation of Rs 85,000 to the clubs. But this time, the amount of the donation per club has been increased by Rs 25,000, and she announced a donation of Rs 1 lakh 10 thousand.

The Chief Minister will start inaugurating the puja before Mahalaya. Mamata Banerjee has asked the police to be alert since then. On Thursday, she attended the meeting on Durga Puja and gave necessary instructions regarding the puja. Finally, she announced the grant.

Many people earn money for Durga Puja

Mamata said, "Many people say that Mamata Banerjee doesn't allow Pujas. Here, Pujas are performed in every hoNo puja is not performed in Bengal. Some even go to court. They say, Why should we help with Pujas! Hey, it's a festival. How many people earn money for the puja? The children of the neighbourhood leave their household chores and focus on making the puja a success."

The Carnival on October 5

The Chief Minister said that the Durga Puja carnival will be held on October 5. Officials will get three days of immersion time. She has instructed the police to take care of security. Mamata said, "There will be coordination with the police. Surveillance will continue at the bus stand and ferry pier, mobile patrolling, watch towers, and control rooms will be kept open 24 hours a day. I will also keep an eye out all night long."

There have to be more vehicles.

The Chief Minister has directed the Transport Department to run more vehicles during the Durga Puja. Mamata said the Chief Secretary will talk to the Metro so that it can run for a longer time. Also, she has requested that local trains also run for a longer time. She has advised that hospitals should be prepared for the event.

'People's lives should not be lost while drawing crowds'

The Chief Minister said, "Don't do any theme that creates the possibility of being trampled. Don't let people's lives be lost while drawing crowds. Don't make it a competition for crowds. Don't let there be stampedes."

She added, "Why do you have to show the Pujas of Bobby, Arup and Sujit? Show the rest too." Mamata said that a total of 45,000 clubs are performing Pujas."
