Need Asli Paribartan: PM Modi attacks TMC from Singur where CM Mamata once humiliated Ratan Tata
In 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several development projects worth over Rs 830 crore in Singur, and also flagged off the new Amrit Bharat train on Sunday.
New Delhi: Singur, the land in West Bengal where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee once protested against the Tata Group, a movement that catapulted her to the Assembly elections victory against the CPM-led Left Front in 2011. It crushed the dream of a thriving industry, where thousands of people had hoped for a stable income and livelihood. All those years back, Ratan Tata left Singur in Hooghly with his Nano factory and moved to Sanand in Gujarat, whose Chief Minister at that time was Narendra Modi.
PM Modi at Singur: A significant moment
In 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several development projects worth over Rs 830 crore in Singur, and also flagged off the new Amrit Bharat train on Sunday. He also laid the foundation stone of the Extended Port Gate System at Balagarh on the very same day, among a host of other projects. But PM Modi's attack on the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government from Singur bears immense significance.
PM Modi attacks TMC from Singur
PM Modi greeted the vast crowd that gathered at Singur to see him, and said that their enthusiasm shows the spirit of Bengal for a change, as he noted the presence of women and youth in his rally. He said, "Everyone has come with only one hope, that of 'Asli Paribartan' (real change). Everyone wants the jungle raj here to end, and we have done so in Bihar. Now in West Bengal, we are ready to say goodbye to TMC's jungle raj".
From the meeting, he raised the slogan, "Paltano dorkar, chai BJP shorkar" (Need to change, want BJP government." He said, "I have come to Singur at a time when the country has celebrated the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram. It was discussed in Parliament as well, as the country revered Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. The connection between Hooghly and Vande Mataram is even more special; it is said that it was right here that Rishi Bankim Ji gave Vande Mataram its full form."
PM Modi brings up illegal immigrants issue
Attacking the Bengal government over the immigrants issue, PM Modi said that the TMC gives shelters to those who enter this country illegally. He said, "They make fake documents for them, sit in protests to save their vote banks. We have to identify those who have entered this country illegally and send them back to their country. We have asked the TMC government over border fencing, but they did not pay heed to us. Your vote can change this."
'TMC destroying future of youth in Bengal'
He added, "I want Bengal to prosper in agriculture, I want more factories here. But the TMC government blocks all the developmental schemes of the Centre. I can understand if it has a problem with me, if it has enmity with the BJP. But it has enmity with the common people of Bengal. The party is hampering the fisheries of the states."
He asked the crowd, "Should not the TMC that is destroying the future of children in Bengal go? Should not women and sisters be given safety? Shouldn't we give punishment to the TMC? Those who have hampered Centre's development schemes have been punished."
He asked the crowd, "Should not the TMC that is destroying the future of children in Bengal go? Should not women and sisters be given safety? Shouldn't we give punishment to the TMC?" PM Modi also touched upon the Bengali culture and said, "The Bengali language and literature are very rich, but the Bengali language was granted the status of a classical language only when you formed a BJP government at Centre. It is only through the efforts of the BJP government that Durga Puja has been given the status of cultural heritage by UNESCO. When these TMC people were partners in Sonia Gandhi's government in Delhi, why didn't they do this then?"
