Will INDIA bloc bring impeachment motion against CEC in Parliament? What we know
With this move, the parties within the INDIA bloc are also trying to show a united face before the country, following Mahagathbandhan's massive defeat in the just-concluded Bihar polls.
New Delhi: India bloc leaders led by the Congress may bring an impeachment motion against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar in the upcoming winter session of the Parliament. The session will start from December 1 and continue till December 19.
According to sources, the Congress is in talks with other INDIA bloc partners to bring the impeachment motion against the CEC. With this move, the parties within the INDIA bloc are also trying to show a united face before the country, following Mahagathbandhan’s massive defeat in the just-concluded Bihar polls.
Opposition’s serious charges against EC
Notably, in recent times, the Congress has time and again accused Kumar of playing hand in glove with the BJP. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has on a few occasions, claimed on camera that several voters are voting from more than one constituency. He even claimed mistakes in the addresses of voters and other details.
However, while the Election Commission repeatedly asked the Congress to file a written complaint, the Congress has so far not filed any. Even in the recent case of Special Intensive Revision in Bihar, the Congress accused the EC of not doing justice in the revised voters list and feared that many genuine voters might have been left out.
Congress to hold mega rally against SIR next month
Now that the EC is announcing SIR in other states too, the Congress is planning to hold a mega rally in the first week of next month. As per reports, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge recently held a meeting with the party’s state unit presidents, general secretaries, and secretaries of the party. Even Rahul Gandhi and M Venugopal were present in the meeting.
A similar suggestion to impeach Gyanesh Kumar had earlier cropped up in June this year in the meeting of the INDIA bloc leaders. The suggestion was immediately accepted by those attending the meeting.
