Zubeen Garg's cop cousin arrested; was with him at Singapore yacht party

New Delhi: Singer Zubeen Garg's cousin and Assam Police Service (APS) officer Sandipan Garg was arrested on Wednesday amid an investigation into his suspicious death in Singapore. Sandipan was allegedly with Zubeen at the Yatch party in Singapore when the singer allegedly died while swimming. Sandipan is presently posted as Additional SP, Boko. So far, five people have been arrested in the singer's death case.

Zubeen Garg, a popular singer from Assam, died by drowning while swimming on September 19 in Singapore where he had gone to perform in the North East India Festival. According to initial probe, the singer found floating face down in the water after he went for swim at a yacht party. His cousin was allegedly with the singer during his last moments on the yacht.

Sandipan was taken into custody after Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials interrogated him for several hours. He will be presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court and police will seek his custody, Special Investigation Team (SIT) head Munna Prasad Gupta said.

Zubeen's death sent shockwave across Assam

The sudden death of Zubeen Garg, who had a massive fanbase in Assam and other northeastern states and was also widely considered as a cultural icon, left many shocked.

The singer's wife, Garima Saikia Garg sought to know the circumstances that led to his death and demanded justice for him. ''...we will be together again, very soon Goldie (the name by which Garg was called by the family). But now, very soon, I/we all want to know the reason why you went away physically from us...Why? This is a big question. This question is burning my empty heart day and night. I want an answer...,'' Garima said on her Facebook page.
Thorough probe into Zubeen's death

Following the singer's death, the CID formed an SIT, led by Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta, for probe. Garg's manager Siddhartha Sharma, musician Shekharjyoti Goswami, singer Amritprava Mahanta and North East India Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta were arrested in connection with the singer's death.

The death case was transferred to CID on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's direction, after more than 60 FIRs were filed across the state
