New Delhi: Unexplained infertility occurs when fertility testing hasn't found a reason for being unable to get pregnant. So, this happens in the case of many couples. It simply means more investigation and a focused, step-by-step plan are needed. With careful testing, lifestyle changes, and targeted treatments, many couples still go on to have healthy pregnancies.

Dr. Rita Modi, Senior IVF Consultant, Motherhood Fertility & IVF, Kharghar, said that unexplained infertility tends to reflect the limitations of standard testing. Routine checks (semen analysis, ovulation confirmation, fallopian tube patency, and basic ovarian reserve tests) can miss subtler problems such as:

  • Mild sperm functional problems are not seen on routine semen counts.
  • Subtle fallopian tube dysfunction or tiny adhesions that block egg–sperm meeting.

  • Advanced sperm function tests and DNA fragmentation.
  • AMH and antral follicle count to check the ovarian reserve.
  • Tests for uterine lining health and endometrial receptivity will be advised
  • Screening for hidden infections, autoimmune markers, or hormonal imbalances.
