Why moving towards minimal skincare can be good for you

Minimal skincare doesn't mean ignoring your skin or doing less for the sake of it. It simply means focusing on what really works. Targeted products can be introduced, but the routine is easy and manageable.

Minimalism for skin care is about being smarter in our choices, depending on facts rather than hype, and having faith in products that earn their keep.

New Delhi: Step into any beauty store in India, and you will notice that the shelves are lined with an array of endless products. The trend of skin maximalism peaked during the lockdown, when the viral 10-step Korean skincare routine gained popularity. However, that mindset is slowly changing. People are moving away from cluttered bathroom counters and leaning toward a minimal approach.

In an interaction with TV9 English, Dr. Shalini Dubey, Medical Affairs Manager, Iberia Pharmaceuticals, explained why minimalistic skincare is gradually taking over.

What Are The Trends

As per reports, India’s skincare market is set to reach USD 17.1 billion by 2033. What really stands out is where the growth is coming from. The biggest chunk of the market is still made up of everyday basics, that is, cleansers, moisturizers, and sunscreens, with Indian consumers continuing to stick to the core steps, the ones that make up a simple, minimal routine.

People, today, are actually using skincare, not just what’s trending online. These aren’t flashy products, but they are the ones most people won’t skip to keep the skin clean, hydrated, and protected, and their dominance in the market shows that Indian consumers are becoming more practical in their choices. There is a sign that minimalism is moving from being just a buzzword to becoming the way many people approach their daily routines.

Skincare Tips To Maintain A Minimalist Routine

Minimal skincare doesn’t mean ignoring your skin or doing less for the sake of it. It simply means focusing on what really works. Targeted products can be introduced, but the routine is easy and manageable.

A quick and efficient skincare routine starts with the basics. Start the day by washing your face with a mild cleanser to wake you up, then top it with a thin coating of moisturizer to protect your skin from dryness, and finally top it off with sunblock (at least SPF 30), the one product you can never, ever forego. Remove night sunscreen, pollution, and grime at night and use your day moisturizer or a richer one if you are dry. Apply a single product, particularly if you have to cure a particular issue like acne, spots, or wrinkles, a couple of times a week. Lastly, it is always three about: wash, moisturize, and protect, and then everything else follows.

Why is this trend so well-liked?

The beauty of this "less-is-more" philosophy has appeal beyond skin well-being. Less product means less chance for irritation, and consistency is simpler. Consistency is really what provides skincare with its payoff. It also curtails unnecessary spending, slows down junk, and reduces packaging waste, so it is eco-friendly. Most notably, this change is a paradigm shift as far as beauty is concerned. Skincare is not calculated by the number of bottles on your bathroom counter anymore, but by which one affects you.

Minimalism for skin care is about being smarter in our choices, depending on facts rather than hype, and having faith in products that earn their keep. And in India, where growth remains driven by mass essentials, the message is evident: when it comes to skincare, less is not more; it's sufficient.
