Abhishek Sharma has emerged as one of the shining stars of Indian cricket, having performed breathtakingly in the last few seasons of the Indian Premier League. Born on 4th September 2000 in Amritsar, Abhishek, along with his childhood friend Shubman Gill, represented Punjab and opened the innings for the state in the under-14s.
Sharma shot to fame with a century on his Under-19 debut for Punjab in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy. He captained India to victory in the U-19 Asia Cup in 2016 and was a key member of the 2018 U-19 World Cup-winning team.
Sharma played under the coaching of legendary cricketer Yuvraj Singh during the COVID-19 lockdown period, and that's where his cricketing journey began to take shape.
Sharma started his career as a hard-hitting lower-order batsman who can also bowl left-arm spin. He entered the IPL after being bought by the Delhi Capitals (formerly known as Delhi Capitals) in 2018. However, he played just 3 games for the Capitals and was signed by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2019.
After a couple of quiet years, Sharma showed his batting might while playing for Punjab against Madhya Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2021. He scored the fastest hundred by an Indian in List A cricket, in 42 balls.
He carried his domestic form to the IPL and scored 426 runs as an opener in the 2022 edition. After an underwhelming 2023 season, Sharma roared back to form with an astonishing display in the 2024 season and established himself as one of the most explosive batters in Indian cricket.
After being bought for Rs 55.5 lakhs by Delhi in 2018, Abhishek's salary remained the same till 2021 with Sunrisers Hyderabad. He bagged big bucks in the 2022 auction after signing a 6.5 crore contract with the Hyderabad-based franchise. Sharma's salary for the next two seasons remained the same before he was retained for a whopping Rs 14 crore ahead of the 2025 mega-auction.
From 55.5 lakhs to 14 crore, Abhishek Sharma's IPL salary and auction price have seen a rapid rise. His current salary is Rs 14 crore - 115.4% more than his salary of Rs 6.5 crore in the previous three IPL seasons.
