After Bangladeshs T20 World Cup exit, BCB director Ishtiaque Sadeque resigns
After Bangladesh were replaced by Scotland in the 2026 T20 World Cup, the BCB director Ishtiaque Sadeque stepped down from his position.
New Delhi: Ishtiaque Sadeque has resigned as a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board after the International Cricket Council (ICC) replaced Bangladesh with Scotland in the 2026 T20 World Cup. The BCB’s game development committee chairman gave his resignation on Saturday (January 24), due to family reasons.
He had been elected as a director of the BCB from Category 2 (Dhaka Clubs) in the board's October elections last year, securing 42 votes, which were the highest in his category.
His resignation came on the same day, when the ICC officially announced Scotland as Bangladesh’s replacement in the T20 World Cup 2026, which is scheduled to begin in India and Sri Lanka from February 7.
Bangladesh had pulled out of the global ICC event, citing security concerns of playing in India and claiming that the matter was not adequately addressed by the global governing body.
Ishtiaque told Cricbuzz that he is resigning from his position as he is not able dedicate the required time to accelerate Game Development.
"It is true that I am resigning. I believe that I am unable to dedicate the time required for such a large community like Game Development, where I am currently serving, because of my family and personal commitments. I cannot provide the effort necessary to accelerate Game Development. For this reason, I feel a personal sense of regret that I am not doing justice to this position. That is why I am resigning from here," Ishtiaque told Cricbuzz.
He further added that the reports of him leaving because of any misunderstanding and relationship issues with anyone in the BCB are completely false, as everyone who worked with him tried their best in their own way.
ICC releases updated T20 World Cup 2026 schedule
The ICC has also released the updated schedule of the 2026 T20 World Cup 2026, with Scotland replacing Bangladesh in Group C of the tournament. Scotland will take on the West Indies in Kolkata on February 7, Italy (February 9), and England (February 14) at the same venue, before travelling to Mumbai to face Nepal on February 17.
