CPL 2025: Two cricketers, league official robbed at gunpoint in Barbados

New Delhi: In a shocking turn of events, two cricketers from the Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2025) franchise, the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and a league official were recently robbed at gunpoint. The incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday (September 9), according to the Barbados Police Service.

According to reports, they were returning from a private event to the hotel, but stopped to grab some food, when the attack occurred around 3 am.  The robbers wanted their jewellery and valuables. The report further stated that during the struggle, a gun was dropped, which was later recovered by the police.

The report also confirmed that no one got injured during the incident, and the Barbados Police Service also confirmed that the weapon has been recovered and an investigation is already underway to identify the culprits.

The franchise has also reassured that their players and a league staff member are safe and are currently cooperating with the police. The police have also confirmed that no West Indies cricketers were robbed during the incident.

A CPL spokesperson also talked about the matter and said that the safety and well-being of the cricketers are the league's main priority, and everything is in the hands of the police.

Despite all this, the Patriots are preparing for the next match against Barbados Royals at Kensington Oval on September 11, and the security around the franchise has been tightened. The Patriots have not revealed the identity of the cricketers who were involved in the incident, nor released any official statement.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots struggle

The St Kitts and Nevis Patriots have struggled to perform well in the CPL 2025 so far. They have only managed to win just three games out of the nine, and are currently languishing in the fifth spot in the points table.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots need to win their match against the Royals at any cost to keep their slim hopes alive of progressing to the playoffs.
