India need 124 runs to win the first Test of the two-match series against South Africa at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
New Delhi: Ravindra Jadeja's four-fer helped India bowl South Africa out for 153 runs in the second innings of the first Test at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday. The Men in Blue need 124 runs to win the match at take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
The visitors did well to cross the 150-run mark on a testing pitch after resuming the day at 93 for seven. The Proteas captain, Temba Bavuma, scored the first fifty of the match, ending with an unbeaten 55 runs off 136 balls with the help of four boundaries.
After taking a slender 30-run lead, Kuldeep Yadav provided India with their first breakthrough in the second innings by removing Ryan Rickelton for 11 runs with a flighted delivery which turned back in from good length. Ravindra Jadeja also removed Markram for 4 runs with a full delivery.
The all-rounder dismissed Wiaan Mulder for 11 runs with a good-length ball. He also removed Tony de Zorzi (2) and Tristan Stubbs (5) to complete his four-fer. Apart from skipper Bavumra, none of the Proteas batters were able to make any contribution with the bat. Jadeja picked up four wickets, while Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav also took two wickets each.

Chasing the target, the Men in Blue got off to a disastrous start as they lost both the openers cheaply. Marco Jansen removed Jaiswal for a duck with a good length delivery, which nipped back in. Jaiswal was rooted deep in his crease to defend the ball, but it took the outside of the bat to the keeper.
The all-rounder also dismissed KL Rahul for just 1 run. He bowled a back-of-length delivery, which bounced awkwardly and surprised the batter. The Men in Blue are without their regular skipper, Shubman Gill, who was ruled out of the remainder of the Kolkata Test due to a neck injury, which he suffered on the second day’s play here.
