IPL 2011 points table
Chennai Super Kings beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 58 runs and became the first franchise to win consecutive IPL titles at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The 2011 season was the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and was played entirely in India. Ahead of the season, current India head coach Gautam Gambhir emerged as the most expensive player in the auction at that time. He was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for Rs 11.04 crore. Gambhir was named captain of KKR and led them to the playoffs for the first time in 2011.
KKR qualified for the playoffs in 2011, but the Gambhir-led team lost against the Mumbai Indians in the eliminator. MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won the IPL 2011 title after beating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 58 runs in the final.
As many as five batters, including Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, scored more than 500 runs in the IPL 2011. Chris Gayle won the Orange Cap, scoring 608 runs in 12 matches. Virat Kohli was second on the list of highest run-getters, amassing 557 runs in 16 matches. Lasith Malinga was the Purple Cap winner in that season, taking 28 wickets in 16 matches.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) topped the points table in the group stage with 19 points in 14 matches, followed by Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who finished 2nd with 18 points in 14 matches. Mumbai Indians (MI) finished 3rd with 18 points in 14 games.

Chennai Super Kings clinched 2nd IPL title in 2011
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 58 runs in the 2011 final at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. MS Dhoni-led CSK became the first franchise to successfully defend their title and win consecutive IPL titles. CSK batted first and scored 205 runs in 20 overs.
Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay forged a 159-run partnership for the opening wicket. Hussey scored 63 runs off 45 balls with the help of three boundaries and three maximums, while Vijay scored 95 runs off 52 balls with the help of six maximums and four boundaries. Sreenath Aravind and Chris Gayle picked up 2 wickets each.
Chasing the massive target of 206 runs, RCB got off to a poor start and lost the wicket of Chris Gayle on a duck in the first over. Suresh Raina removed Virat Kohli on 35 runs, while Shadab Jakati dismissed Ab de Villiers on 18 runs.
Saurabh Tiwari scored an unbeaten 42 runs off 34 balls, but other batters failed to make any contribution as RCB fell 58 runs short of the target. Ashwin took 3 wickets and Jakati picked up 2 wickets while Raina, Bravo and Bollinger took 1 wicket each.
