Ive become like Rohit Sharma: Suryakumar Yadav laughs off toss Brainfade - Watch
Suryakumar Yadav humorously forgets a player at the toss vs Oman, comparing himself to Rohit Sharma as India announce team changes for the game.
New Delhi: Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav provided a comical moment at the toss ahead of their final group match against Oman in Abu on Friday. After winning the toss and opting to bat, Surya attempted to announce the two changes India had made to the side but got stuck while recalling the names.
While he remembered that pacer Harshit Rana was coming into the playing XI, he blanked on the second replacement. Former India head coach Ravi Shastri later clarified that left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh was the other change. Laughing at his own lapse, Suryakumar quipped that he had "become like Rohit Sharma,” referencing the Indian ODI captain’s well-known tendency to forget names or decisions at the toss.
"We are looking to bat first. We have not batted first in this competition, and we want to know our depth. Having game time is important going into the Super Four. We want to continue the good habits from the first two games and keep building on that,” Surya said.
Then came the interesting part as Surya added, Surya added, "We have two changes - Harshit comes in, one more guy comes in. I have forgotten the name. I have become like Rohit, I just can’t remember. Let me see around… I said Harshit, yes we have two changes,” he chuckled.
India test bench strength
Despite having already secured a spot in the Super Four, this match against Oman offers an opportunity to test the bench strength. The two changes- Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh replaced Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakravarthy giving key players rest ahead of the Super Four stage.
Surya’s humorous comparison to Rohit was well-timed, considering the Indian ODI captain has had similar moments in the past including a match against New Zealand where he briefly forgot his toss decision before correcting himself. Both players hail from the same part of India and fans couldn’t help but enjoy Surya adopting the same playful habit of forgetfulness.
As the game gets underway, Men in Blue's focus will remain on batting first and ensuring the team builds momentum as the match offers opportunity to the players to grab their chance in the Super Four.
