Orange era begins in England as Kavya Marans The Hundred side Sunrisers Leeds unveil official logo
The Sun Group, owners of Sunrisers Hyderabad (IPL) and Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SA20), acquired The Hundred's Northern Superchargers franchise for 100.5 million pounds in July 2025.
New Delhi: The Hundred franchise Northern Superchargers has been renamed as Sunrisers Leeds, whose official logo was unveiled on Monday via an announcement on social media. The Sun Group, which owns the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad, had bought a 100 per cent stake in the Yorkshire-based team in February last year.
"A new era begins. SunRisers is not just a team, it is family, it is emotion, it’s passion," the franchise announced in a video posted on its official social media handle.
Orange Army has always shown up in huge numbers with pure passion, from India to South Africa. It's time to paint Headingley orange. We're ready to go hard, we’re ready to go fearless. We're ready to play with fire. The team is yours, Orange Army. Every wicket, every run and every record is for you," Kavya Maran, owner of the franchise, said.
Orange Army set to take over Leeds
The Hyderabad-based Sun Group also owns the Sunrisers Eastern Cape team in SA20, South Africa's franchise T20 cricket tournament.
The next edition of The Hundred will have plenty of IPL flavour.
Several IPL franchises have made significant investments in the English cricket tournament. While Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), owned by the RPSG Group, bought a 70 per cent stake in Manchester Originals, Reliance Industries, owner of the Mumbai Indians, has a 49 per cent stake in Oval Invincibles.
Meanwhile, GMR Group, owners of the Delhi Capitals, acquired a 49 per cent stake in Southern Brave.
After the rebranding, the North England team is expected to do away with its traditional purple kit for the famous orange and black colours associated with the Sunrisers' Orange Army ahead of the 2026 season.
