New Delhi: The Indian women's cricket team's white-ball home series against Bangladesh next month has been postponed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), it was notified on Tuesday. The Indian cricket board is aiming to work out an alternate assignment for the world champions side in the same window.

The three ODIs and as many T20Is against the neighbouring country were a part of the ICC Future Tours Programme and expected to be played in Kolkata and Cuttack. A BCCI official confirmed to news agency PTI that they will try to arrange an alternate series in December but details are still being worked out.

Though it is known that this has happened due to the tense political differences between the two nations but the Indian cricket board official mentioned that they did not get the go ahead for it, not mentioning the exact reason.

The series could have been the first outing for the Indian women's team after emerging triumphant in the ODI World Cup earlier this month. Earlier on Monday, a tribunal court in Bangladesh sentenced the country's former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death for alleged crimes against humanity. This decision was followed by violence in the country and strained differences between India and Bangladesh also played a part.

Dhaka demand India to hand over Hasina

The reason for the differences between India and Bangladesh has been that since the turmoil began, Hasina fled to India and has since been living here. The interim government in Dhaka has demanded India to hand over Hasina. Meanwhile, a BCB source also confirmed to PTI that they received a letter from the BCCI regarding the same.

'We (BCB) have received a letter from the BCCI regarding the cancellation of the series, and now we are waiting to hear new dates or details,' a Bangladesh Cricket Board official told PTI.

It may be recalled that the BCCI had deferred the men's white-ball tour to Bangladesh in August this year to September 2026, following the unrest in that country that led to the toppling of the Hasina-led government.
